THE LONG-AWAITED premier of locally-made film ‘Staid’ will take place on March 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the National Opera House.
The film, which was written and directed by Paul O’Brien, based on the play ‘One Last Long Breath’, was filmed on location around Wexford last year and in recent months lots of work has been done in the area of post-production and distribution.
This is Paul’s debut as a film-maker and he says: “Although set in small-town Ireland, its themes are universal centrepieces of love, loss, ambition and that feeling of being stuck in life. Four small-town people, tied together by new and old relationships, come together to tangle, fight, sing, talk, drink, argue, laugh, leave and return — while stumbling towards the reality that their lives are finally changing, whether they like it or not.”
Paul added that the film was adapted from the play which had had a sell-out run in The Sky and the Ground pub the year before.
“I just knew these characters had more to say, more to do. When the run was over I asked the actors and crew involved if they’d like to join me in expanding and re- inventing this for the screen. Everyone was in.”
General admission the premier on March 3 is €15. There is also a limited number of €40 VIP packages on offer. Tickets are available from www.nationaloperahouse.ie or by calling 053 91 22400.
