The collision, which is believed to have involved a 4×4 jeep, happened around 4 p.m. on the N30 at Ballymackesy and the road was closed off for a number of hours afterwards to facilitate an exam of the scene by a team of forensic collision investigators.

Ambulance personnel were called to the scene and Mr. Mimnagh was brought to Wexford General Hospital.

Mr. Mimnagh (40), originally from Tyrone, was well-known in Ferns as he was a member of the Racing 795 Triathlon Club and also acted as Treasurer of the Junior Athletics Club, SBR in Ferns. Youth training in Ferns was cancelled on Monday evening as a mark of respect to the popular sports man.
