THE FIRST section of a new gas distribution network being constructed in Wexford town has been commissioned, allowing residents of a three-and-a-half kilometres route covering parts of Newline Road, Whitemill Industrial Estate, Clonard Road and Beechlawn to access natural gas.
The stretch is incorporated in the approximately ten kilometres of new gas mains being constructed by Gas Networks Ireland and Irish Water in Phase 1 of the €25 million ‘Wexford Town Gas and Water Project’.
Old water mains in the town are also set to be replaced as part of the scheme being delivered on behalf of Ervia, with one kilometre being replaced in Phase 1.
Main-laying activities over the coming weeks are set to focus on the provision of natural gas for the new Garda Divisional Headquarters under construction on Mulgannon Road.
These will involve works on Trinity Street, William Street, Parnell Street and Michael Street, as well as gas and water main rehabilitation works in the Rocklands area.
A spokesperson for Gas Networks Ireland outlined how, while the latter-mentioned activities are particularly challenging, Ervia is committed to delivering the vital multi-utility infrastructure upgrade works and, at the same time, to ensuring that disruption to businesses and residents is kept to a minimum.
